Role Overview

SMPnet is looking to attract a Smart Grid Engineer (covering areas of optimisation & control) to join our engineering team and enable fast and seamless integration of Omega technology into energy systems.

What will you be doing?

  • Development of optimisation & control algorithms for smart grids
  • Process customer data and prepare system requirements, functional specifications, test specifications and other documentation for SMPnet projects
  • Prototype and benchmark of developed algorithms in relevant industry-standard software packages
  • Document developments to managing team to inform them of proposed systems or processes and the expected benefits of implementation
  • Lead and drive continuous improvement of programming standards, tooling and test methodologies
  • Prototype and participate in R&D and commercial projects for novel technologies increasing quality

Essential Skills and Experience

  • Python, Pyomo or other relevant optimisation programming languages and packages (e.g. GAMS, Gurobi, etc.)
  • Experience with design and development of smart grid applications
  • Experience with design and development of power systems control applications
  • Experience modelling energy assets, networks in relevant optimisation packages
  • Excellent use of English language (written and oral)

Bonus Skills and Experience

  • Knowledge of design patterns, data structures, and algorithms
  • Knowledge of SCADA systems & communication protocols
  • Prior work experience with DSOs & TSOs
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills and team working skills
  • Strong organisation skills, and good attention to detail
  • Results oriented who is not scared of taking accountability
  • Excellent presentation skills, well organised and credible at a senior level
  • Desire to work in a fast-moving, high pressure, and entrepreneurial environment
