Role Overview
We are seeking an experienced and strategic Head of Engineering (Cloud & Edge) to lead our technical development and scale our engineering processes, and guide the evolution of our product roadmap. You will be responsible for managing multidisciplinary engineering teams across cloud, edge, and data systems. The ideal candidate will combine hands-on technical expertise with strong leadership and organisational skills to help SMPnet scale its technology and operations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and manage cross-functional engineering teams (cloud environments, edge systems, and data systems).
- Represent the engineering function at the management level, reporting progress, risks, and priorities clearly to the leadership team.
- Define and drive the engineering strategy in alignment with technology and business goals.
- Participate in client-facing technical sessions to deliver engineering guidance.
- Ensure technical excellence and software quality across all deliverables (e.g., software deliverables, reports, etc.).
- Implement and evolve best practices in software architecture, CI/CD, security, and testing.
- Maintain and enhance infrastructure automation, scalability, and reliability across deployments (cloud and edge).
- Collaborate with the project management teams to align on roadmaps, priorities, and delivery timelines.
- Foster a high-performance engineering culture through mentorship, performance management, and hiring.
- Evaluate new technologies, tools, and methods to continuously improve engineering productivity and product robustness.
- This role requires regular travel, approximately 5% of the time, primarily within Europe, with occasional international trips (USA). Travel will be necessary for client meetings, project oversight, and industry events, sometimes at short notice depending on project needs.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
- 7+ years of engineering experience, with at least 5 years in a leadership capacity.
- Proven experience managing high-performing teams delivering complex software systems (edge and cloud-based).
- Strong communication, organisational, and stakeholder management skills.
- Familiarity with cyber security systems - i.e., ISO27001 and NIST Zero Trust architecture.
- Experience with grid or energy systems is highly desirable.
- Strong command of the English language, both written and spoken.
- Demonstrated ability to lead in a fast-paced, mission-driven environment.
