Reporting to the Senior Manager, Projects& Revenues, you will become the operational backbone of SMPnet's commercial activities. You will be responsible for ensuring that our commercial engine runs efficiently by managing our CRM, supporting business development activities, coordinating commercial opportunities and proposals, conducting market research, and introducing automation and AI tools to improve commercial effectiveness.
You will work closely with the Senior Manager, Projects & Revenues, the CEO, the Head of Business Operations and engineering teams across the business to maximise the effectiveness of our commercial activities. This is not a traditional sales role. Instead, you will enable the wider commercial team to focus on customer engagement, strategic business development and closing opportunities.
Depending on your experience, you may join as either a Commercial Operations Associate or Commercial Operations Manager.
· Own and maintain SMPnet's CRM, ensuring opportunities, contacts and activities remain accurate and up to date.
· Maintain commercial pipelines and ensure opportunities progress through the appropriate stages.
· Prepare weekly commercial dashboards and pipeline reports.
· Coordinate customer meetings, agendas, actions and follow-up activities.
· Prepare customer briefing notes ahead of meetings.
· Maintain commercial documentation, account information and opportunity records.
· Support the continuous improvement of commercial processes and reporting.
· Monitor utility websites, procurement portals, innovation programmes and funding opportunities for new leads.
· Research utilities, regulators, technology partners and prospective customers.
· Build and maintain target account lists and contact databases.
· Conduct competitor and market intelligence research.
· Identify relevant tenders, RFIs, RFPs and framework opportunities.
· Support outbound business development activities through research and lead generation.
· Coordinate the preparation and submission of RFIs, RFPs and commercial proposals.
· Develop proposal timelines and monitor key deadlines.
· Coordinate technical and commercial inputs from internal teams.
· Ensure proposal documentation is complete, professionally formatted and submitted on time.
· Maintain and continuously improve SMPnet's proposal library and reusable commercial material.
· Identify opportunities to automate repetitive commercial activities.
· Develop and maintain AI-assisted workflows for CRM updates, market research, meeting summaries and proposal preparation.
· Recommend improvements to commercial systems, tools and processes.
· Support the implementation of new software and productivity tools across the commercial function.
· Prepare concise weekly summaries of commercial activities and pipeline progression.
· Maintain visibility of commercial KPIs, pipeline health and opportunity status.
· Track actions arising from customer meetings and ensure timely follow-up.

· Ensure commercial information remains accurate, organised and accessible.
· Excellent written and spoken English.
· Degree in Business, Engineering, Economics or another relevant discipline.
· Strong organisational and project coordination skills.
· Experience using CRM platforms (HubSpot experience desirable).
· Excellent written communication and document preparation skills.
· High attention to detail.
· Ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously.
· Strong analytical and research skills.
· Experience using Microsoft Office and Google Workspace.
· Comfortable learning and implementing AI tools and workflow automation.
· Ability to work independently in a fast-moving, entrepreneurial environment.
· Experience in commercial operations, business operations, project management or bid coordination.
· Experience within technology, engineering, consulting or infrastructure sectors.
· Familiarity with public procurement, utilities or energy markets.
· Experience coordinating proposals, tenders or funding applications.
· Experience implementing AI productivity tools and workflow automation.
